Évekkel ezelőtt, amikor még sokan hittek a WAP eljövendő sikerében egy szakmai beszélgetésen Andrassew Iván kifejtette, hogy az újságíróknak meg kell tanulniuk "wapul". Azóta már tudjuk, hogy minden felhajtás és szakértői jóslat ellenére a WAP csak marginális szerephez jutott, az újságírók többsége meg valószínűleg azt sem tudja, mi a WAP.
Jeff Jarvis a Guardianban most a Twittert dicsőíti. (Emlékeztetőül: Ez egy olyan rettenet, ami kiválóan egyesíti a blog, az SMS és az iWiW hátrányait. Jarvis és a hozzá nagyon hasonókat író Paul Bradshaw (Online Journalism Blog) persze nem erről beszélnek. Ők, és több más újságíró is virtuózan használják a Twittert információk gyors megosztására és - természetesen - saját tevékenységük propagálására. Twitter link a blogon, a honlapon, a Facebook oldalon... - ez ma már teljesen természetes. (Hogy ez mennyire nem csak a beavatottak ügye, bizonyítja a NY Times minapi cikke.)
Igen, persze, vannak események, ahonnan akár 140 karakterben is, de tudósítani kell. De mi ennek az igazi előnye a műholdas telefon és a mobil internet korában?
Lehet, hogy ha száguldó riporter, vagy folyamatosan a világ kongresszusait járó sztárblogger lennék jobban értékelném a Twitter előnyeit, de nem vagyok egyik sem. Így a hazai Twitterezők között szétnézve inkább csak a szokásos "geek" arcokat és holdudvarukat találtam. (Na jó, van köztük 1-2 tech újságíró is.) Szerintem a "nomális" (nem tech témákban utazó) újságíró nyugodtan kihagyhatják ezt a csatornát, inkább koncentrálhatnak a webes tartalmakra. Van mire.

És mégis, valahogy működik. Mostanra a Twitter lett az az elsődleges informácóforrás és közös referencia, ami valamikor a blog volt.
